We recommend against requiring letters of employment and requiring proof of employment in general because we have heard from our community that this can lead to source of income discrimination and deters people who have alternative sources of income from applying to spaces. These outcomes go against our Community Agreements.
Instead of letters of employment, we recommend asking for proof of income as verification that interested parties can afford the rental terms. This makes these terms equitable for individuals who have different sources of income, such as unemployment benefits and housing vouchers.
