Subletting your home is a way to get your personal living space and rent taken care of when you are going to be away for an extended period of time. Additionally, it is a great opportunity for the subtenant to get a reasonable rate for a short-term living situation. Because Listings Project is a community that deeply values equity and transparency, listings in this category should not include passive income.
To price your sublet fairly, we recommend taking the monthly amount that you pay in rent/mortgage and utilities, and scaling that price to the length of the sublease. For example, if your monthly rent is $1000 and utilities are $100 per month, you should charge $2200 for a two month sublet or $550 for a half month sublet.
If your home requires any additional responsibilities, such as feeding your fish or watering your plants, your listing should be transparent if you are offering a rent discount in exchange for this work.
